FAQs

If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact me!

When can I expect my jewels?

Some items in the shop are in stock and will be ready to ship within 2-3 days. All pieces not currently in stock are made to order by hand and will be on their way to you within three weeks of purchase. If you have your eye on something and timing is a concern, get in touch and we can discuss how quickly I can whip it up for you. Lead time on custom orders varies, but typically your item will be ready to ship 6-10 weeks from the time the deposit is received. A more concrete time frame for fabrication of custom pieces will be communicated once the design has been established.

How will my items be packaged and shipped?

Flux jewelry pieces are beautifully packaged in gift-ready boxes or pouches. All items purchased from the Flux shop are shipped USPS first class for a flat rate of $5. Shipping charges for custom items will be determined based on the value of the piece, and will be communicated to you prior to shipping. Maine residents are subject to 5.5% sales tax at checkout. Flux currently only ships to the United States unless by special request. I am certainly happy to ship to other countries and can determine the best shipping method depending on where you are!

How do I determine my ring size?

I strongly recommend getting sized at your local jewelry store. There are many online guides, but they may be unreliable. Please note that I cannot accept returns on the basis of a ring not fitting properly if the ring is indeed the size you ordered. I am happy to adjust the size for a fee, which will vary depending on the design. If the ring is a gift and you do not know the correct size, please contact me and we can explore options based on what piece you're interested in.

What is your return policy?

As a very small business creating mainly made-to-order jewelry, I do not offer cash returns. I am happy to exchange your item for another item of equal or greater value, give you store credit, or provide a gift certificate in exchange for your unworn jewelry in original condition. If you’d like to exchange your piece, please contact me at carly@fluxjewelrystudio.com within 5 days of receipt to make arrangements. If you have questions beyond what the listing shows, please do not hesitate to reach out before purchasing. Custom orders are made just for you and are non returnable.

Do you sell gift certificates?

Yes! Flux gift certificates are available in any amount by contacting me here. Please include the amount of the gift, how you’d like the “To” and “From” fields to appear, and your mailing address. I will email you an invoice that you can pay with a credit card and send your beautifully packaged gift certificate directly the the recipient or to you for gifting.

How are Gift Certificates redeemed?

All gift certificates come with a code, which functions as a discount at checkout. Simply enter the code and your gifted amount will be subtracted from your purchase. To redeem online, the item(s) you are purchasing must equal or exceed the amount of your gift certificate due to website parameters beyond my control. If you'd like to make a purchase using only a portion of your gift certificate, please contact me and I can easily make it happen! Gift certificates are good for anything Flux has to offer, including custom jewelry. Please note that gift certificates are not redeemable for cash.

Is your jewelry ethically produced?

All jewelry (and any man made product for that matter) is manufactured at some environmental expense. However, Flux is dedicated to buying from companies and individuals that consider the environmental and social impacts of their products. All metal filings and scraps from my studio are sent to a refinery to be melted down and recycled if I can't reuse them myself. All diamonds used in production pieces go through the Kimberly Process, which you can read about here. If you prefer to use lab created stones I am very happy to work with you to find quality gems that were grown rather than mined. I employ local industry friends if a job requires a specialist, such as hand engraving or CAD services. I am proud to offer a quality product with ethical sourcing in mind.

What is the diamond quality used in flux stock pieces?

All jewelry pieces featuring diamonds in the Flux web shop are made with GHI SI1/2 diamonds. I carefully select great quality stones that will sparkle beautifully and are clean to the naked eye.

Why does White gold cost more, and what the heck is rhodium plating?

Rhodium is a bright white precious metal that is not used alone for jewelry but is perfect for plating over white gold. Most white gold jewelry items on the market are rhodium plated, as white gold on its own has a slight grayish yellow color. Rhodium plating brings out the true white that is generally desired in white gold jewelry, and is especially dazzling when used on diamond pieces. White gold jewelry costs more due to the added expense of this plating. If you prefer to have your white gold left in its natural state, please let me know before purchasing and I will adjust the price accordingly!

If I send you off to work with my stones or jewelry pieces, will they be safe?

Yes. I take the possession of other people's precious items very seriously.  If we meet in person or you send something to me in the mail, you will receive an insurance slip documenting that Flux has your piece, with the full value of what you have delivered noted.  Packages are always shipped fully insured.

How should I store and clean my FLUX jewelry?

Sterling silver jewelry oxidizes over time, giving it an antique look. If you would like to prevent this, shielding the piece from air in a plastic bag when you're not wearing it can help. A polishing cloth will brighten and shine metal that is tarnished or has shallow scratches. Chains should always be hung up to prevent tangling. Fragile stones like emeralds, pearls, and opals require special treatment and should never be cleaned with an ultrasonic or steam cleaner. Diamonds and soft stone jewelry should never be stored together as the diamonds can scratch your other gems. Most jewelry can be cleaned by using a bit of dish soap and a soft toothbrush to gently scrub the stones and metal (plug your drain!). If you have questions about the maintenance of your jewelry pieces purchased from Flux please contact me and I will advise you.
